Getting to Sri Lanka

Flying is the only way to enter Sri Lanka and the main gateway  is through the Bandaranakaya International Airport which is the only international airport in Sri Lanka. It is located in Katunayake, 35 km north of Colombo. It is the hub of SriLankan Airlines, the national carrier of Sri Lanka. In recent years, various expansion projects have been undertaken at Bandaranaike International Airport. A pier with eight aero-bridges opened in November 2005, the first of its kind in Sri Lanka. The airport website can be accessed at http://www.airport.lk/.

Direct air services from various international destinations such as London, Tokyo, Singapore, Dubai, Bangkok, Frankfurt, Zurich, Jakarta, Kuwait, Kula Lumpur, Amsterdam, Doha, Hong Kong, Paris, Tokyo  and  New Delhi  are provided by various international airlines  on a daily basis. In addition there are very good connections to Sri Lanka via various transit airports such as London (Sri Lankan airlines, Emirates Airlines), Manchester (Emirates, Qatar Airways) Dubai (Emirates Airlines) , Singapore (Singapore Airlines, Qantas, Emirates) , Bangkok (Thai airways), Paris (Sri Lankan Airlines)  and Frankfurt.

Travel between the airport and conference venue

Travel between the airport and conference hotel usually takes between 3 and 4 hours. If preferred, a transit hotel can also be booked near the airport. Transfer options include booking a private car with driver, or a shared mini-bus/coach with driver. Where possible and depending upon your arrival time, our appointed travel coordinator will endeavour to offer shared transfer options (please send him your arrival and departure details) to reduce the cost. Approximate costs for these transport options are given below:

Car (1-2 persons) US$ 120.00 per vehicle / one-way
Micro Van (3-4 persons) US$ 165.00 per vehicle / one way
Mini Coach (5-10 persons) US$ 205.00 per vehicle / one way

For assistance in booking transport for transfer between the airport and hotel, and details on shared transfer options or other internal travel arrangements within Sri Lanka, please contact Ziyan Ameen, the conference organiser's appointed travel coordinator, at:
